After all the professional development, all the effort developing your technical ability, your classes will still suck unless you care.
It’s not about you, it’s about them.
You’ve got to care enough to get out of your own head, and into theirs. What do they care about? What are their hopes and dreams and motivations? What world do they live in? Where do you and English factor into their lives? Do they care enough about you to want to continue practising outside the classroom? Have you shown them enough fun stuff to do with English they keep touching English throughout the week? (Hint: you will have done if you care).
Build that connection with your students. Have those conversations.
Really, the only way to become a better teacher is to become a better person (and to care more than you do now).
